John Woodling's (Colorado Division of Wildlife) excellent but out-of-print book, "Colorado's Little Fish: A guide to the minnows and lesser known fishes in the state of Colorado" (1985) is a real gem. Some of the keys and images used in this field guide were adapted from that publication.
Dr. Kevin Bestgen and Darrel Snyder of the CSU Larval Fish Laboratory are world-renowned experts in the study and conservation of western U.S. fish fauna. Their thorough research provided the most complete list of Colorado fishes ever developed (Bestgen and Snyder 2000) which is the basis for the species included in this field guide.
